Every now and again, a story crosses your path that is so noteworthy it takes your breath away — this is one of them.
Tommy Connolly was a typical college student. He hit the books hard, hung out with pals, and worked part-time.
When he wasn’t in class or a library, he was training to be a champion sprinter.
However with one message in his Facebook inbox, Tommy’s entire life was forever changed.
Tommy got a Facebook message from his 16-year-old cousin, Kiarna.
Since they last seen one another, Kiarna had hit rock bottom several times. After combating addiction and dropping out of school, Kiarna wound up homeless, without family and pregnant. She decided to reach out to Tommy in an act of desperation.
Tommy didn’t hesitate. Without Kiarna even asking, he went got her, brought her back to his home, and legally adopted her. A week later, she gave birth to a son.
Now, while Tommy persists his studies, to support his new family he works full-time — and he does so merrily.
“It’s not her fault,” Tommy said of the situation. “She’s just a little girl who needed help.
“I know what I’ve done is a really good thing, but I feel guilty I’m getting all this attention.”
He doesn’t see himself as a hero, and he hopes more people in the world will assist others when they can.
Everyone helps pitching in with Tommy’s new ‘grandchild’, his girlfriend, Olivia.
“She’s the toughest girl I know!!” Tommy said of Kiarna. “All she wants is for her son to have a better life than she’s had. There’s still a long way to go, but things are on track and she has the opportunity she deserves. When bad things happen, it’s your family that supports you.”
