A mail carrier is in hot water after they reportedly refused to deliver Republican mailers to residents in Neenah, Wisconsin.
According to Fox News, an investigation has been launched to find out why hundreds of political ads for Mike Rorhkaste, the Republican candidate for Wisconsin’s 55th Assembly District, were dumped into recycling bins.
Neenah Postmaster Brian Smoot confirmed that there was an investigation into the matter but he refused to comment on the situation.
Smoot said: “I am not allowed to comment because it is an active investigation.”
According to WatchDog, Rorhkaste received an email from a Nennah resident on Thursday evening. The resident, who was not identified, said that they witnessed a postal carrier dumping a bunch of paper into a recycling bin behind an apartment complex. When the resident went to check what the carrier dumped, they found hundreds of political ads for Rorhkaste’s campaign.
Robert Rukes, special agent with the inspector general’s office in Chicago, said that this wasn’t a politically motivated event. According to Rukes, the mail carrier wasn’t trying to destroy Rorhkaste’s campaign. Instead, they were just lazy.
Rukes said: “Based upon our investigation, this was nothing done toward a specific candidate or party. It looks like it was a decision made by the carrier, and it was not a good decision … A lot of times, what happened in this situation, you have a carrier who felt overwhelmed with the volume of mail so they decided to discard some of the mail without delivering.”
