Sometimes we want to be social and hang out with our social media friends. Other times we want to hide from certain people. If the latter is of concern you might want to try out the mobile app known as Cloak.
Dubbing itself as an “anti-social network” the apps creators allow users to avoid people they don’t want to accidentally bump into.
The social media app focuses on alerting users when they get close to a social media users actual location.
The platform grabs location-based information after a user attaches it to their Foursquare or Instagram accounts. The app displays a map of the users location and the location of their social media enabled friends who have checked in nearby.
Want to avoid someone specific? Simply place a “flag” by their name and you are alerted when they fall inside a certain radius of your location. While the app is set at a half-mile radius, that distance can easily be changed by the user.
The apps developers say they are already working on Twitter access and other social media connections that will help extend Cloak’s capabilities.
Cloak was created by programmer Brian Moore and former Buzzfeed creative director Chris Baker.
Cloak has a long way to go before it can really carve out location based data for users, but so far the premise has us interested.
