Walmart is selling “fat girl costumes?” The internet was outraged today when it was revealed that the retail giant used an insulting label for its plus-size costumes.
Yes, that’s real. Walmart actually had a category on its website for fat girl costumes. Needless to say, the internet was outraged.
Several people complained on Twitter, saying that it was extremely “inappropriate” and “insulting” to have these items listed under “Fat Girl Costumes.”
“Fat Girl Costumes”? Really, @Walmart? Who thought that would be an appropriate title for a public sales page? Come on.

Walmart corrected the issue and removed all of the items from the “Fat Girl Costumes” category. The company also issued an apology but did not give any sort of explanation.
The company said: “This never should have been on our site. It is unacceptable, and we apologize. We are working to remove it as soon as possible and ensure this never happens again.”
So how does this happen? We don’t have a clear explanation but Jezebel writes that Walmart’s costume section is basically the “hottest of messes.”
Jezebel writes: “If being called fat isn’t quite your speed, why not peruse one of these racist American Indian parody outfits? Or this entire selection of “Gypsy” costumes? Or, returning to fatness, this super witty and sophisticated Fat Tinkerbell get-up for men? The description reads “Tinkerbell really let herself go since she has been out of work for so many years!”
