Vimeo on Thursday announced the acquisition of Echograph, a GIFs video creator that directly competes with Twitter’s Vine platform.
Vimeo did not reveal the sum paid for Clear-Media’s GIFs platform.
Just like Vine the Echograph program creates short video loops develops from GIFs.
Vimeo CEO Kerry Trainor said in a statement:
“We chose Echograph because it helps people easily create beautiful high quality video content.”
Echograph has already received plenty of praise, including the Editor’s Choice placement in the App Store for more than 130 countries.
While the Echograph app originally sold for $2.99 it is now being offered for free on both iPhone and iPad devices.
The Echograph team will join Vimeo but the brand will remain separate and Echograph’s team will remain at their office in Los Angeles.
Joining Vimeo will be Clear-Media CEO Nick Alt, he will take over as Vimeo’s vice president of mobile.
