Twitter Commemorates the 19th Anniversary of Selena’s Death With #RIPSelena

Twitter has commemorated the 19th anniversary of the death Latin singer Selena with a trending tag of #RIPSelena.

Selena, full name Selena Quintanilla was a highly successful artist in the 1990’s, and was named the “top Latin artist of the ’90s” and “Best selling Latin artist of the decade” by Billboard.

Her career delivered fourteen top-ten singles in the Top Latin Songs chart, including seven number-one’s.

Best known in Spanish speaking countries, Selena had begun recording in English and potentially had an even bigger future ahead of her until her life was tragically cut short when she was murdered on March 31, 1995.

The movie Serena, starting Jennifer Lopez, was released in 1997.

The #RIPSelina tag trended heavily on Twitter March 31, particularly in states with a high Latino population such as Texas, California and Florida.
