It’s really hard to kill a vampire and, apparently, it’s equally difficult to kill a vampire franchise. The final Twilight movie hit theaters a few years ago but the franchise will live on thanks to a few mini movies on Facebook.
The Twilight franchise racked up more than $3 billion for Lionsgate so it’s no surprise that the studio wants to revive the series. There are no plans for another full length film but thanks to this new initiative, Twilight fans will get to revisit their fantasy world a few more times.
Michael Burns, Lionsgate’s vice chairman, said: “We think Facebook is a great way for us to introduce the world of ‘Twilight’ to a whole new audience while re-energizing existing fans.”
The Facebook film series, called “The Storytellers – New Creative Voices of “The Twilight Saga,” will feature five short films written by author Stephenie Meyer. The new movies will be directed by five different aspiring female directors. The Wall Street Journal notes that all of the Twilight movies, except for the 2008 release, were directed by men.
Meyer said: “The female voice is something that has become more and more important to me as I’ve worked in the film industry.”
Lionsgate is currently looking for five talented women to direct the new movies. If you think you have what it takes you can check out the talent search here.
