Tumblr has been infected by a worm that’s spreading spam and affecting thousands of accounts. The worm affects users who interact with a pop-up after viewing a specific post. The post is hard to miss as it begins with “Dearest ‘Tumblr’ users” and is followed by a long message.
In the PS the worm claims that if you delete the post from your account your Tumblr information will deleted. Tumblr is aware of the issue and has temporarily disabled posting.

The pop-up that appears starts with “Notice: Tumblr will be undergoing maintenance on December 4th 2012 at 01:00 AM for several hours.” If you see that message do not interact with the pop-up and kill your browser immediately.
If you see the message posted on your Tumblr account or if you visit a page that had the message you should change your password immediately to avoid the negative actions of the Tumblr Worm.
The Tumblr worm was started by GNAA, a hacking group well known for their internet trolling and hacking of various websites. In the meantime, after changing your password it is probably best to avoid using Tumblr until the issue has been fully resolved.
