Tumblr has been serious about bringing in ad dollars since being acquired by Yahoo in May 2013, and has hired its first ever director of media.
Stepping up to the plate is former director of mobile growth at Yahoo Sima Sistani, who will help Tumblr better connect with the entertainment world.
Reporting directly to global head of brand partnerships Lee Brown, here’s what Sistani had to say:
“When I’m out there talking to media companies, they’re really interested in figuring out how to engage their fans on Tumblr. There’s a big range of opportunity.”
While getting big players to advertise on the social network is a definite plan, Sistani also wants to help companies better engage the community with their own content.
“That native response on Tumblr is to share. What that means for influencers and media companies is that they are coming into a community that will share content out to their networks. I just really want to figure out how to help be a catalyst in the process.”
Last month, Tumblr reported a 30 percent increase in users from March 2013, and an over 50 percent increase in mobile monthly active users.
