Todd Helton Retirement Gift? A Horse, Seriously [Photo]

Todd Helton will be walking away from the Colorado Rockies at the end of this season. Sorry, did I say walking? Helton will probably be riding off into the sunset on his new retirement gift. A horse.

Yes, the Colorado Rockies presented Helton with a unique going away gift tonight.

Helton played his final game at Coors Field tonight. Helton has played all 17 years of his career with Colorado and he leaves the league ranked in the top 100 for All-time hits, doubles, home runs, RBIs, total bases, batting average and on base percentage. The Rockies wanted to give him a big sendoff so they mowed the number 17 into center field.

Oh, they also gave him a horse.

Helton said before the game: “I’ll miss the anticipation of walking out of the tunnel and seeing the fans, and getting ready to play the game … That’s going to be the toughest part to me. The fans of Colorado, I’d like to thank them. It’s been an honor to be your first baseman for the last 17 years. I have grown from a man, to a husband and into a father. We have seen the good times and the bad. It’s been a pleasure to share all of that with you.”
