Tango Milestone: 150 Million Users Join Network As Available Services Expand

Tango App 150 Million Users

Tango is now serving 150 million customers. The company on Thursday announced the new milestone for its over-the-top (OTT) communications apps.

While still only half the size of WhatsApp the platform has added an impressive 50 million users in the last six months.

The company first attracted users by focusing on video messaging, but has since branched out into social gaming and social networking.

Instead of focusing squarely on peer-to-peer communications services Tango has been developing its very own social games over the last year. The company recently announced communications tools for game developers that it hopes will connect an increasing number of gamers and add more in-game communications.

Tango’s first game developer customer was Gameloft and since that time five more development shops have signed up for the program. Tango has launched 10 games and user engagement has increased by 33 percent. Tango has in-turn doubled the average number of messages sent while over the network, while increasing picture sharing by seven-fold.

Over-the-top communications companies have been experiencing tremendous growth over the last several years with WhatsApp, WeChat, Viber, and several others leading the space. Some experts believe the space is ripe for acquisitions and Tango’s increased focus and steady growth will likely make it a strong target for purchase.
