West Union, SC Mayor Linda Oliver has come under fire for a Facebook post that calls gays “queers” and once again preaches against homosexuals from a biblical point of view.
In her post (which has since been deleted) Oliver writes:
“What’s it gonna take to get these queers to realize they don’t need a piece of paper. God will not bless their union because he plainly speaks against queers in the Bible. Want to cover your queer with insurance? Buy a policy. Want your queer to get your stuff when you die? Make a will,” according to the Towleroad.com website.
In another post she wrote:
“I know that thru this storm Jesus will not leave me nor forsake me.”
Religious fanaticism aside users were not pleased with the mayors attack against the LGBT community. The Facebook page “Recall West Union S.C. Mayor Linda Oliver” attracted 500 likes and one follower on her page commented “Tax dollars should not pay for intolerance.” Another voter called her “no doubt a full KKK member … .”
Oliver allegedly wrote the post after Buncombe County, N.C., register of deeds Drew Reisinger said he would accept marriage license applications from same-sex couples. In 2012 a North Carolina amendment specifically forbid same-sex marriages.
A post from Linda Oliver on Thursday reads: “If you stand for a REASON, Be prepared to STAND ALONE like a tree … .”
