Socialcam Adds Expanded User Profiles, Camera Switching, Hashtags, And @Mentions

Socialcam Updates for iOS and Android

Socialcam users are reaping the benefits of the platform joining the team at Autodesk. The mobile app on Thursday rolled out a bunch of new features that streamline the application while adding better social parity. Features now available include expanded profile pages, the option to switch between rear and front-facing cameras and hashtag plus @mention options.

Autodesk purchased Socialcam for upwards of $60 million and then increased its staff from four to seven developers.

To help Socialcam live up to its social name co-founder Michael Seibel has been working with his team to provide better support for hashtags and @mentions. Users could always mark their posts with hashtags but trying to search for those tags before this update was a nightmare. Now Socialcam users can easily search for @mentions and posts with hashtags. Socialcam has even added an auto-complete function for ease of use.

In helping socialize the app further the team at Socialcam has also created extended user profiles that allow users to share more about themselves with friends and potential friends.

One of our favorite new features is the ability to switch between rear and front-facing cameras. Simply click on the front-facing camera for example and you can begin recording a message before you switch over to the rear-facing option to show off the scene in front of you. The camera switching feature is great for personalized greetings as you introduce a scene. Unfortunately the camera switching technology is only available for iOS users at this time.

Socialcam engineers are working around the clock to bring the Android OS version to parity with Apple iOS. The team recently tore down and completely rebuilt the Socialcam platform for Google Android.

Check out the new Socialcam feature updates and let us know what you think.
