Ray Rice was suspended indefinitely from the NFL. Adrian Peterson was benched by the Minnesota Vikings. So why is Hope Solo still playing for the women’s soccer team?
Hope Solo was arrested earlier this year after she allegedly attacked her sister and her 17-year-old nephew after the young man said that she was “two fat to be an athlete.” Solo plead not guilty to two domestic violence charges and her court case is currently set for this November.
In the meantime, Solo will continue to play for the Women’s Soccer Team.
In light of the domestic abuse issues plaguing the NFL, many people are wondering why the Seattle Reign have kept Solo on the roster, why US Soccer has not disciplined Solo, and why Nike continues to sponsor her.
The folks at @nike dropped @adrianpeterson but they’ve said not a peep about @hopesolo and domestic violence. This makes no sense.

So Hope Solo can represent our country after being arrested for domestic violence and everyone is okay with that. Just saying — Jamie Lasker (@JamieLasker) September 19, 2014
If we’re going to criticize #NFL teams for their handling of domestic violence, how do we feel about #USWMNT letting Hope Solo play?

Hope Solo is playing in a US soccer game tonight despite 2 domestic assault charges. No outrage here though, right? pic.twitter.com/edJNBeFWcH — Phillip Mena (@phillipmenaKPRC) September 18, 2014
There are plenty of reasons excuses to let Hope Solo continue to play. It was only a woman hitting a man. She was drunk at the time and she already apologized. Women’s soccer isn’t big enough to truly stir up national outrage. Or, as Neil Buethe, U.S. Soccer director of communications, put it, Hope Solo is in the middle of an incredible record setting shutout streak.
Beuthe said: “We are aware that Hope is handling a personal situation at the moment … At the same time, she has an opportunity to set a significant record that speaks to her hard work and dedication over the years with the National Team.”
Really? Hope Solo is too good to be punished for domestic abuse?
USA Lineup Notes: Coming off her record-breaking shutout in the last match, GK Hope Solo will captain the team. Rampone gets her 297th cap.

What do you think? Is this a double standard? Should Hope Solo be benched?
