Sending Tweets Through Text Message Will Get Your Account Hacked

Twitter Text Messaging

Sending tweets through text messaging is a surefire way to allow hackers access to your account. Researcher Jonathan Rudenberg recently found an exploit via Twitter text messaging in which he reveals:

“Twitter users with SMS enabled are vulnerable to an attack that allows anyone to post to their account.”

According to Rudenberg accounts can be spoofed when a PIN number is not setup, a feature that is not available in the United States. Because a PIN can not be used in the US customers are left without a simple yet effective way to authorize tweets.

The issue was reported to Twitter back in August but the social network has not yet fixed the vulnerability.

In a blog post Rudenberg says he found similar vulnerabilities with Facebook and Venmo.

At this time the only fix for US users it to disable the Twitter tweets function via SMS.
