Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) tweeted out against Arizona’s anti-LGBT bill on Monday morning, writing that he hopes Gov. Jan Brewer will veto the legislation. McCain was joined by fellow Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake, who echoed his call for Brewer to veto the bill, SB 1062.
The legislation would allow businesses to deny service to LGBT people for religious reasons.
Proponents of the bill say that it will protect the religious freedom of business owners tho have a moral objection to providing services to gay individuals. However, opponents say that it legalizes discrimination and opens the states’ businesses up to potential backlash.

Brewer indicated that she may not make a decision about the bill on Friday, though the comments from the Republican senators may help her with her case if she chooses to veto it. She told ABC News over the weekend that she is evaluating it, adding, “You know, the bill is in transmittal and I don’t have to make a decision until next Friday so I’ve got plenty of time.”
