Khan was born to a Muslim household in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Salim Khan, his father, is a scriptwriter, and Sushila Charak, his mother, is a housewife. Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan are his brothers, and Alvira Khan Agnihotri and Arpita Khan are his sisters.
Khan’s acting career began in 1988 with a supporting role in the film Biwi Ho To Aisi. He made his feature film debut in the 1989 film Maine Pyar Kiya, for which he received a Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.
