Need further proof that Facebook’s privacy settings are in need of a major overhaul? Randi Zuckerberg, sister of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, became angered this week when a Christmas day photo from her family appeared on Twitter.
Zuckerberg posted a photo in which she and the rest of her family try out Facebook’s new poke messaging feature. The family photo was posted to Randi’s Facebook page and then tweeted out by Vox Media director of marketing and special projects Callie Schweitzer.
Callie tweeted:
“Randizuckerberg demonstrates her family’s response to Poke #GAH pic.twitter.com/EHNwJ78b”
Later in the day Zuckerberg questioned where the photo came from:
“I posted it to friends only on FB. You reposting it to Twitter is way uncool.”
To which Schweitzer noted that her Facebook profile was set to allow subscribers and therefore Schweitzer was allowed to view and download the photo for sharing on Twitter.
Apparently the sister of Mark Zuckerberg didn’t realize how her profile privacy was being affected when she sent the photo. Randi believes her photo was sent to “friends only” when it fact the photos tags allowed others to also see the photo.
Schweitzer wasn’t trying to “out” the Zuckerberg family and she promptly apologized and removed the photo which is now featured above.
Let’s this be a leasson to Facebook users, even the company’s former director of marketing and the sister to its founder can not figure out Facebook’s privacy settings.
