PopCap Games, a division Electronic Arts Inc. announced on Tuesday that it has released a beta test for its Facebook adaption of the popular mobile game Plants vs. Zombies™ Adventures.
The announcement marks the first time PopCap has brought its popular franchise to the Facebook gaming platform.
The release is a closed beta test that involves a very limited number of Facebook users. PopCap hopes to release the full public version of Planets vs. Zombies Adventures in Spring 2013.
It will be a busy spring/summer for PopCap games as the company also announced plans to release Plants vs. Zombies 2 in the early Summer months.
According to Curt Bererton, head of PopCap’s San Francisco studio:
“Plants vs. Zombies Adventures is a highly accessible, zombie-zapping adaptation of the original game designed specifically for Facebook. The game not only offers up exclusive new plants and zombies along with old favorites, it features all-new forms of zombie combat that will open PvZ to a whole new world. We like to think we’re creating a brand new twist on the classic Plants vs. Zombies that is the most social, shareable and expansive Plants vs. Zombies experience ever.”
Plants vs. Zombies Adventures unlike the original game allows users to extend their gameplay behind the confines of a backyard. The company has promised funny “road-trips” as users travel around a landscape filled with zombies.
With Facebook integration users will now be able to send hordes of zombies to their friends accounts.
PopCap games has also added new zombie and plant types, new planet defenses and cultivation options and even leaderboards meant to increase user-to-user competition.
You can follow Planets vs. Zombies Adventurs by visiting Facebook.com/pvzadventures and by chatting on Twitter using the hashtag #PvZAdventures.
PopCap couldn’t be launching its new game at a better time. At San Francisco’s Game Developers Conference on Tuesday Facebook announced that it now has more than 250 million active monthly gamers.
