Paper App Creator: ‘Facebook Should Stop Using Our Brand Name’

Facebook Paper

Facebook unveiled its news app Paper last week, and while it’s already available, it’s looking like the social network may have to make some changes.

Today, developer FiftyThree, the creator of another app called Paper, published a blog post about Facebook’s new venture.

Paper, first launched in 2011, allows you to draw, paint, write and much more.

According to FiftyThree Co-Founder and CEO Georg Petschnigg, Facebook apologized for using the same name, but Georg feels “an earnest apology should come with a remedy.”

That remedy? With both apps offering completely different experiences, you can see where this is going:

“We think Facebook can apply the same degree of thought they put into the app into building a brand name of their own. An app about stories shouldn’t start with someone else’s story. Facebook should stop using our brand name.”

Georg went on to talk about the company’s relationship with Facebook, and how even one of the social network’s board members is an investor in Paper.

“What will Facebook’s story be? Will they be the corporate giant who bullies their developers? Or be agile, recognize a mistake, and fix it?”

Facebook has yet to issue an official statement, so here’s to hoping the situation doesn’t escalate into the courtroom.
