Morgan Freeman Dead? Twitter Mourns Nelson Mandela With Photos Of Actor

The smell of stupidity is strong tonight. Twitter users are using the hashtag #RIPNelsonMandela to share their thoughts on the late South African President. Unfortunately, many of those messages are accompanied by photos of Morgan Freeman.

Now, there are a few explanations for this. Either the internet is full of trolls, idiots, or people who just want to use Twitter’s top trending hashtag regardless of what it actually means to them. We’ve done our research and we found out that all three of those explanations are true.

The mistake is somewhat reasonable. Morgan Freeman did, after all, play Nelson Mandela in the movie Invictus. But so did Danny Glover, Dennis Haysbert, Terrence Howard, and Idris Elba.

Most of those actors have shared their thoughts about Nelson Mandela today.

Freeman said: “Today the world lost one of the true giants of the past century … Nelson Mandela was a man of incomparable honor, unconquerable strength, and unyielding resolve — a saint to many, a hero to all who treasure liberty, freedom and the dignity of humankind.”

Elba added: “We have lost one of the greatest human beings to have walked this earth, I only feel honored to be associated with him. He is in a better place now.”

Unfortunately, this isn’t the only display of stupidity on Twitter today. A viral tweet from Paris Hilton (it turned out to be a hoax) confused Mandela with Martin Luther King. Jr.
