LinkedIn continues to expand its reach and now that growth has reached the 13+ high school students market. The social network on Monday announced that it is tapping into the high school market as a way to attract future power users.
The social recruiting platform also announced the launch of University Pages which allow educational facilities to add their own profiles and then reach out to potential, current, and alumni students.
By adding younger users LinkedIn may convince a new generation of users to make LinkedIn their primary resume of choice. As more companies move towards social recruiting the move isn’t a bad decision.
LinkedIn officials hope the new platform options will lead to “career mapping” at a younger age.
Both of the platforms new features will roll out globally by September 12.
Ultimately companies could use the platform to find interns based on a younger and active demographic. Finding a college student who has maintained a business account with LinkedIn since 13-years-old could be a good barometer for a person’s work ethic at a young age.
The new LinkedIn university pages setup already includes approximately 200 institutions with thousands more expected in the near future. Here’s a first look at NYU on LinkedIn:
We will likely continue to see a buildup of University services via LinkedIn. Bringing the world’s top educational institutions in the world into the mix is a natural fix for the company. Forget about “career fairs” at local colleges, now students can connect directly with companies who seek out workers from their favorite universities.
While the program still has a long way to go it shows LinkedIn’s commitment to broadening its job search prospects.
LinkedIn is on a tear recently with a newly renovated mobile app and the ability to apply for jobs directly from mobile devices.
