Line Capitalizes On WhatsApp Outage, Saw 2 Million New Users In 24 Hours

Line

Line is a mobile messaging app with over 300 million registered users, and according to the service, it recently added two million new users in a 24-hour period.

The source of the five-fold increase? None other than the WhatsApp outage over the past weekend, which lasted around three and a half hours.

From Line Euro-Americas CEO Jeanie Han:

“Our growth strategy has always included providing a strong network that can handle unplanned and unexpected increases in network traffic. We pride ourselves on providing a safe, secure platform that will always work when our users need it the most.”

Despite the left hook, WhatsApp has the last laugh thanks to a $19 billion deal with Facebook, and over 200 million more monthly active users than Twitter.
