‘Video On Instagram’ Debuts With 15-Second Limit, Simple Editing With Filters

Instagram Video Feature Debuts

Facebook on Thursday help a press event where Video on Instagram made its debut. The new video option is one of Facebook’s biggest additions to the platform since it acquired Instagram for $1 billion in 2012.

Facebook’s Menlo Park headquarters hosted a press event today in which Instagram co-founder and CEO Kevin Systrom debuts the Video On Instagram feature.

The platform allows for 15-second video clips to be shared from a users smartphone while providing some basic video editing.

Much like Instagram’s picture platform the new video feature allows for 13 different filters to be used for video creation.

In very simple terms Systrom explained:

“What we did to photos, we just did to video.”

iOS and Google Android users will start seeing the update arrive today. All together 130 million monthly users will have access to Video on Instagram.

When Instagram took over the social photo sharing space many companies jumped in to match the platforms service via video offerings.

With Instagram video capabilities in place Facebook now squarely faces off against Vine and its 6-second time limit.

According to Systrom the new video platform chose 15-seconds for its time limit as an “an artistic choice.” System says of the choice “It’s that Goldilocks moment. It feels just right.”

Since the video platform is simply being added to the Instagram infrastructure users can expect the same social sharing and other post features they have come to love from the multimedia based company.

Will you be uploading Instagram edited video to your account?
