Ah yes, the TV weather report. It’s had the unhappy reputation of being one of the most unreliable things on media. (Who hasn’t heard the weatherperson saying there’ll be sun, and then your folks quipping “Welp, there goes our picnic plans today.”) It’s no wonder weather anchors have gone to great lengths to keep people watching, from getting funny to getting naked. (No, seriously.)

The Welsh town of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (ah, the magic of copy-paste) translates to “Saint Mary’s Church in the hollow of the white hazel near a rapid whirlpool and the Church of St. Tysilio of the red cave,” which is actually a pretty ideal name for such a small town, because it’s just so magnificently specific. Of course, you could opt to call it by its shorter name “Llanfairpwllgwyngyll“, or if you just can’t be bothered, go with “Llanfair PG“. Oh, it’s totally absolutely fine, no judgement.
So, some of you may be thinking, “hey, if he can say it, I can say it too! It shouldn’t be so hard… right?” Well, unless you speak Welsh or are a Welsh local, you might trip on the first few syllables the first time. BUT! If you’re up to the challenge, here’s a cheery little song to help you along. Sing loud and proud, and watch those guttural ch‘s and nasal consonants. Also, wet your lips and limber ’em u a bit; you probably are going to need it.
