Hannibal Buress Calls Bill Cosby A Rapist

It’s no secret that Bill Cosby has had a few legal issues with women over the years. He’s been accused of sexual assault and has even settled a lawsuit or two out of court. Still, most people don’t think of the iconic comedian as a rapist. But Hannibal Buress isn’t most people.

The comedian caused a stir this week when he told a few Bill Cosby jokes during his set in Philadelphia. The premise of the bit is this: Yes, Bill Cosby is an inspirational, ground breaking comedian. But doesn’t he lose a few points because he’s also a rapist?

Buress said: “It’s even worse because Bill Cosby has the fuckin’ smuggest old black man persona that I hate,” Buress said. “He gets on TV, ‘Pull your pants up black people, I was on TV in the 80s! I can talk down to you because I had a successful sitcom!’ Yeah, but you rape women, Bill Cosby, so turn the crazy down a couple notches…. I guess I want to just at least make it weird for you to watch Cosby Show reruns. I’ve done this bit on stage and people think I’m making it up…. when you leave here, google ‘Bill Cosby rape.’ That shit has more results than ‘Hannibal Buress.'”

The Cosby joke has been a part of Buress’ act for a while now but apparently doing the joke in Philadelphia, where Cosby calls home, created a pretty big reaction.

People on Twitter have been arguing over whether or not Hannibal Buress crossed the line, and whether or not Bill Cosby should still be revered as a comedian.

Bill Cosby has been accused of sexual assault by 13 women since the 1970s. He hasn’t been been convicted of sexual assault but he did once settle a lawsuit. That isn’t necessarily an admission of guilt but it’s hard to ignore accusations from 13 different women.
