Some of the simplest ideas have the biggest impact, and a new Kickstarter project is looking to raise $12,000 for a guide light built into a power outlet.
Well, the project has already surpassed its goal…by about $96,000. Launched on March 4, the SnapRays Guidelight by Snap Power has received over $108,000 in pledges.
Anyone who has kids or who stumbles through their house in the wee morning hours, is familiar with guidelights/night lights.
Typically, you plug them into an outlet, but what Snap Power has managed to do is remove the need to buy anything separately.
Several long-life LEDs are built into the bottom of the power outlet’s plastic casing, and it installs in just a few seconds.
Here’s how it works without the need for batteries or any special wiring:
“The SnapRays Guidelight is designed to be installed over the standard electrical outlet. As the user installs the Guidelight, the patented “Power Extractors” on the back side of the Guidelight slide into the electrical box and around the outlet receptacle making contact with the sides of the outlet. This proprietary technology is what enables the device to extract power from the receptacle without having to hardwire, plug into or occupy an outlet.”
Special sensors kick the LEDs on when the lights go out, and according to Snap Power, it uses less than 10 cents of electricity per year.
With 28 days left, it’s hard telling just how far this Kickstarter will go, and it could even receive attention from major Fortune 500 companies.
