Google+ Unmasked: User Base For Not-Facebook Detailed

Google+

Poor Google+ has been the butt of endless jokes since it was released … sometime in the past, we can’t really remember when.

Alas, Google+ has not caught on in the same way lots of other social networks have managed, remaining a sort of afterthought for users who are in more of a Facebook cycle than anything else social. The very nature of such services means that they rise and fall on our own reliance concerning them, and it feels still to most mainstream social users that Google+ is not very … intuitive.

As it happens, not for everyone — Google+ does have an audience, it may just be, and if it’s not you, it’s probably not you. To wit, Google+ is sort of a well-trafficked network by certain social enclaves, most notably those in IT and neckbeards, or the Venn Diagram of IT neckbeards.

Per Quartz:

“This might help answer the fundamental question of who is using Google+. But given that the site remains little different from Facebook, it doesn’t quite answer why people are using it. Some have said that Google+ is less noisy than Facebook, and that the level of discourse is ‘higher’ than on Facebook. But that could just be engineer-speak for “fewer baby and cat pictures.”

Are you a frequent Google+ user? Why do you favor it over Facebook or Twitter, or even Instagram?
