Google has been integrating Google+ into many of its different services, and today hashtag support will be added to search.
Said to be rolling out in the next few hours, English users of Google.com and Google.ca will see Google+ posts on the right-hand side when searching for hashtags.
Google employee Zaheed Sabur broke the news, and also had this say:
- When you search on Google for a hashtag, say [#AmericasCup] or [#WaterfallWednesday], a set of relevant Google+ posts may appear to the right of regular results.
- You’ll only be able to see posts that have been shared publicly or shared with you.
- If you click on any of these posts you’ll go to Google+, where you’ll see the full set of relevant posts.
- You’ll also see links to search for these hashtags on other social sites.
However, you do not have to use Google+ or be signed into your Google account in order to see posts containing a specific hashtag.
In the original screenshot that Zaheed shared, he was not signed into his Google account.
