Facebook User Posts: “I Wish I Could Get Fired” And Then Gets Fired

Your Fired Because Of Faceboo Comment

Facebook has allowed our employers to turn themselves into a minified version of big brother and Phoenix resident Amy McClenathan learned that lesson the hard way. Amy recently posted the following Facebook status on her personal account:

“I wish I could get fired some days, it would be easier to be at home than to have to go through this.”

Shortly afterward posting her message out of frustration Amy lost her job.

According to the former employee in an interview with AZ Family:

“It was a very small sentence, but it was one of the most powerful sentences I’ve ever typed in my life.”

Amy was going through a hard time in her life, having lost her mom exactly one year earlier, yet her boss wouldn’t give her a pass.

Following the incident Amy’s lawyers Dan Barr who tells AZ Family:

“If the employer reprimands you for discussing your job on Facebook, that can run afoul of the National Labor Relations Act…”If you were to post on Facebook, I work for a bunch of crooks or company X is the worst place in the world to work, that would not be protected. If you post on Facebook I was cheated out of a bonus or that I’m working too many hours and other employees respond and you get a conversation started about that, that counts.”

McClenathan takes full responsibility for her Facebook posting action and shared her story as a warning for other wotkrtd who might try to post the same type of message on their own personal Facebook accounts.
