Facebook was said to be working on a Windows 8 app back in June during Microsoft’s Build 2013 developer conference, and its official app has just arrived.
Available now in the Microsoft Store, it happens to coincide with today’s release of Windows 8.1, a free update for Windows 8 users.
In order to install the app, you have to be running Windows 8.1.
Similar to the desktop version of Facebook, access to messages, pages and groups are on the left-hand side, and a full chat column is on the right-hand side.
You can also check notifications or take a quick glance at messages on the top right above chat.
At the top of the News Feed, users will be met with the familiar mobile app buttons to share a status update, upload a photo or check-in.
Clicking on a photo displays it in full screen mode, and you can browse albums as you normally would.
Timelines for both profiles and pages appear similar to on the desktop, and mobile app.
Currently, Facebook is not running ads in the sidebar, but Sponsored or Suggested posts will still appear in the News Feed.
