Facebook’s Free Wi-Fi Program Being Tested Through Various Cafe Partners

Facebook Places Check-In Offers Free Business Wi-Fi Internet

In November the team at Inside Facebook announced that Facebook was building out plans to offer free Wi-Fi internet service via various cafe partners. The Facebook Wi-Fi program is now going strong at a handful of cafes in San Francisco and Silicon Valley areas.

According to AllThingsD the program offers free Wi-Fi routers and internet service to participating locations. As users check-in to the business location via Facebook Places they are given free access to the internet on their computer or mobile device.

The new program is a win-win for Facebook and location businesses. While customers gain access to free internet, Facebook gains access to location based data which can be used to better target ads for its user base.

Currently only Philz Coffee in San Francisco and several Palo Alto cafes have received the free Facebook Wi-Fi check-in service.
