Charlie Weis is no longer the head football coach for the Kansas Jayhawks.
The former Notre Dame coach was fired this weekend after the Jayhawks lost 23-0 to Texas. The Jayhawks are 2-2 this season and just 6-22 under Weis.
Athletic director Sheahon Zenger said:
“I normally do not favor changing coaches mid-season … But I believe we have talented coaches and players in this program, and I think this decision gives our players the best chance to begin making progress right away. I appreciate what Coach Weis did with several facets of our football program. But we have not made the on-the-field progress we believe we should. I believe new leadership gives our coaches and players the best chance to make a fresh start.”
Here’s Charlie Weis’ last press conference as head coach of the Kansas Jayhawks.
SB Nation reports that Defensive coordinator Clint Bowen, who played for the Jayhawks in the 90s, will replace Charlie Weis as interim head coach.
Former ND coach Charlie Weis fired at Kansas after 23-0 loss to Texas. Jayhawks are 2-2 on the season. I mean, that’s a little ridiculous

On the one year anniversary of Lane Kiffin’s firing, Charlie Weis is out at KU. Probably calling Nick Saban as he cleans out office. — Paul Finebaum (@finebaum) September 28, 2014
Of course, it’s not all bad news for Charlie Weis. He may not have a coaching job at the moment but he does have piles and piles of cash back home.
Charlie Weis out at Kansas. How much did Notre Dame pay him to leave? Wow. Collecting big money from two schools not to coach incredible

Estimated $19 million from Notre Dame, $7 million plus more from KU … for not working. Charlie Weis remains my hero. — Dan Wetzel (@DanWetzel) September 28, 2014
Do you think Kansas made the right decision to fire Charlie Weis?
