Causes is a popular Facebook app that allows users to support or create petitions, and has relaunched as its own social network.
Dubbed “The World’s Largest Online Campaigning Platform,” the new Causes.com is all about organizing, supporting and discovering causes that matter most to you.
We believe there will be special purpose, but deep social networks around specific people parts of your identity. We think your purpose or civic identity is a core part that’s currently underserved.
Despite helping a lot of non-profits, Causes is a for-profit business. Since launching in 2007, the company has raised over $16 million.
However, thanks to 186 million people across 156 countries, users have contributed over $48 million to charities.
Getting started with the new Causes.com is very simple, and straightforward.
When you sign up, you can click the “Sign up with Facebook” button to save you a few seconds, or you can sign up the old fashioned way.
Once you create an account, you choose up to five different “stickers” which are causes that you support.
Next, you can show support for customized recommendations, people or charities you already know and you are ready to go.
The social network has a Kickstarter feel to it, but you can pledge more than just dollars such as joining a boycott, or watching a branded video that will net a charity $1.
Causes also opens up a new way for businesses to connect with consumers, and Budweiser for example is showing its support for clean water projects.
