A British couple’s apology note to burglars who ransacked their home went viral this week. Kate Barrett and her boyfriend, Dan Owens, arrived home from a weekend away to find burglars had smashed through the door the day before. Barrett, who went to London for the weekend to watch a show, arrived home first.
She discovered the ransacked house and called Owens. He recalled that the burglars searched through every room but “there wasn’t too much to take – some cash, a camera, an ipod, but nothing too major.”
The couple had a positive attitude about the situation and even wrote a not to thank the burglars for stopping by. That note, posted on the boarded up window the burglars broke through, read:
“Dear Burglars,
Thanks for popping by the other night and we’re sorry we didn’t have more for you to take.
As you now know, we don’t have particularly expensive tastes so there’s no need to come in again, unless you would like to take my collection of VHS videos and cassettes – Dan is very disappointed you didn’t take these first time round.
If you would like them just knock on the front door and ask – no need to break another patio door as it’s dreadfully hard work cleaning up all the glass.
Thanks for all the finger prints – we really appreciated those.
Lots of love
Kate and Dan xxx”
A photo of the letter to the burglars was uploaded to Facebook and Twitter and has been shared and retweeted hundreds of times.
