Boston Suspect ID’d? CNN Criticized On Twitter For Jumping The Gun

Has a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing been ID’d? If you’ve been reading the news today you might believe that police have someone in custody for the deadly blast that occurred yesterday afternoon. But they don’t.

The FBI released a statement today saying: “Contrary to widespread reporting, no arrest has been made in connection with the Boston Marathon attack. Over the past day and a half, there have been a number of press reports based on information from unofficial sources that has been inaccurate. Since these stories often have unintended consequences, we ask the media, particularly at this early stage of the investigation, to exercise caution and attempt to verify information through appropriate official channels before reporting.”

The FBI doesn’t specifically name a network one can only assume that they’re talking about CNN.

CNN broke the news earlier today that Boston police had ID’d a suspect and had made an arrest.

After the news agency did a little more leg work, they found out that what they had reported was inaccurate.

Several other news agencies reported that a suspect had been ID’d in Boston but CNN is been given the majority of the criticism on Twitter. “CNN” quickly became a trending topic as people ridiculed the station for jumping the gun.

  1. We were misinformed? imagine that!
I don't really listen to the media, or watch the news for that matter.

  2. All of the media jump the gun occasionally. Wait a day then see if they're still saying the same thing. If they are, it might be right…..or it still might not be right;).
