Bill Murray, Sofia Coppola Teaming Up For New Christmas Special

Bill Murray will be teaming up with Sofia Coppola this holiday season for a new TV Christmas special.

Murray, who worked with Coppola on the film Lost In Translation, said that he’d be singing a few classic Christmas Carols on the new special but didn’t give too many other details.

The Oscar nominated actor told Variety: “It’s not going to be live. We’re going to do it like a little movie. It won’t have a format, but it’s going to have music. It will have texture. It will have threads through it that are writing. There will be prose. It will have a patina style and wit to it. It will be nice.”

Singing carols on a Christmas special might seem like an odd choice for Bill Murray but it’s actually right up his alley. We know he’s already comfortable singing on television thanks to Saturday Night Live characters like Nick the Lounge Singer. And we know that he loves a good Christmas carol thanks to the 1998 movie Scrooged.

Sofia Coppola didn’t say when the special would air (we’re guessing sometime around Christmas…) or what sings Murray would sing.

The director said: “We’re working on a Christmas special. Not sure when it will air, but my motivation is to hear him singing my song requests.”

What about you? What songs do you want Bill Murray to sing?
