Becky Hammon To Be NBA’s First Female Assistant Coach

Becky Hammon will be the NBA’s first female assistant coach.

The retiring WNBA star was hired by the San Antonio Spurs as an assistant coach today.

Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich said: “I very much look forward to the addition of Becky Hammon to our staff. Having observed her working with our team this past season, I’m confident her basketball IQ, work ethic and interpersonal skills will be a great benefit to the Spurs.”

Hammon spent 16 years in the WNBA. She announced last month that she would be retiring at the end of this season.

Becky Hammon played her last eight seasons with the San Antonio Stars. She is the team’s all time leader in assists and three point field goals. She also made the all star team six times during her career.
