Attorney General Eric Holder To Resign [Twitter Reacts]

Attorney General Eric Holder will formerly announce his resignation at a press conference later today.

Holder, who was the nation’s first African American attorney general, will stay in office until a replacement is found.

The NY Times reports that Holder has been planning to step down for a long time. He reportedly had a long conversation with President Obama over Memorial Day weekend about his resignation.

The reaction to Holder’s resignation has been mixed. Some praised Holder for his years of service during the Obama administration. Others criticized Holder saying that he was running away from the “Fast and Furious” scandal.

It’s unclear who will replace Eric Holder as Attorney General. The Wall Street Journal reports that former White House counsel Kathryn Ruemmler is one name being thrown around. Ruemmler reportedly had dinner with Holder last month in Washington.

Solicitor General Donald Verrilli and U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara are also reportedly being considered to replace Eric Holder.

Holder, 63, is expected to formerly announce his resignation during a press conference at 4pm EST today.
