Teammates and competitors chimed in on Twitter as LeBron James scored a career high 61 points in the Miami Heat’s win over the hapless Charlotte Bobcats Monday night.
LeBron’s previous career high was 56 points set while playing for Cleveland in 2005. It took almost no time for LeBron’s face to appear on Twitter, superimposed over the most iconic photograph in NBA history.

LeBron James torched the Michael Jordan owned Bobcats mainly from the outside. His 80% shooting from behind the arc led to driving opportunities which LeBron capitalized on to the tune of 22 made field goals.
It was one of those nights where everything he threw at the basket seemed to go in.
One of LeBron’s main competitors in the East is Indiana Pacers center Roy Hibbert. Hibbert will be waiting at the rim for LeBron James this Spring in the NBA playoffs. Monday night, Hibbert paid his respect, although it’s hard to imagine Hakeem Olajuwon offering similar “Congrats” to rivals if Twitter were around in 1995.
damn @KingJames 61 is tough. Congrats.

The league offered a simple, Roger Maris-like tribute to King James. As did Andre Iguodala of the Golden State Warriors.
61……

Pulled a Roger Maris huh…

Fellow Heat starter Shane Battier went with old reliable. The joke that’s been told by basketball playing scrubs dating back to my day. Whenever a teammate drops a bunch of points, you add your meager total to his, then brag about the combined score.
Here, let Shane Battier show you how it’s done.
Anytime @kingjames and I combine to score 64 points, it’s going to be a good night……proud of my teammate tonight. That was a game!

Social media has created a “buddy buddy” environment that’s not all that bad in sports. While some would rather see these guys hating each other, it’s refreshing to see other top level professionals pay tribute to greatness.
