Pope Benedict XVI has announced that he will resign from his post as the ultimate authority of the Catholic church on February 28. To find out how people feel about this historic move (Benedict XVI is the first Pope to actually resign in hundreds of years) one needs to look no further than Twitter.

There’s some sadness out there as Pope Benedict XVI vacates his post, but much like the reactions that went live after he started his own Twitter account, most tweeps are responding with playful sarcasm.
