Helicopter parenting is never a good thing. After all, why bring a child to this world if you’re just going to treat them like a problem? Such a parenting method can prove to be disastrous especially once the child hits puberty. A couple of parents even went as far as placing a hidden camera in their son’s room… to stop him from masturbating.
An anonymous 15-year-old boy from Alaska, US has taken to Reddit’s legal advice thread to ask what his next course of action should be. Apparently, his parents placed a hidden camera or cameras even, in his room after his dad caught him masturbating. The main body of the post has since been removed, but it read:
“My dad barged in without knocking and started screaming at me. He and my mom then sat me down and told me I’m not allowed to touch myself.
I asked my dad and he said they are putting them (the cameras) in my room and bathroom so they can monitor and make sure I’m not masturbating.
I said that wasn’t okay, and he said that I agreed to not masturbate and this is holding me to the agreement. What can I do? I’m 15 and think I should be allowed to touch my own body. This is embarrassing and destroys my privacy, please help,” claimed the anonymous boy.
It seems his parents are opposed to anything he does to his body before marriage or at least before he’s an official adult. Meanwhile, the best answer he got from the Reddit threat was to tell a school counselor about his issue with his parents. However, that could cause friction between his relationship with his parents.
Other courses of action include confiding in relatives so they can talk it out with his parents. Regardless of what his parents think, there is nothing wrong with what the anonymous boy did as with anyone going through puberty.
