Life is full of ironies are they not? So much so, that even a singer with a weird name made a song about it. Life can be that cruel too whether the irony is intentional or not. Moreover, one does not simply talk about self-sacrifice and poverty during Christmas day while being surrounded by objects adorned with gold, like what Queen Elizabeth II did.

Obviously, the royal family still holds political sway and influence over the UK. Monarchy still matters somehow. Hence, Queen Elizabeth II had to give her mandatory Christmas day speech to the whole of the UK which involved talk about poverty. That she did, but it opened a can of worms among the Britons. Apparently, she did it in front of a golden piano:

Additionally, she appears to be sitting on a chair embellished with gold. Also, how could you miss that golden picture frame… and pretty much half of everything in her office all gilded in gold.

“Some cultures believe a long life brings wisdom. I’d like to think so. Perhaps part of that wisdom is to recognize some of life’s baffling paradoxes, such as the way human beings have a huge propensity for good, and yet a capacity for evil. Even the power of faith, which frequently inspires great generosity and self-sacrifice, can fall victim to tribalism,” said Queen Elizabeth II.

Of course, people were torn at her speech. Some even called it a “PR disaster.”

“I liked the bit where she was sitting on a gold chair in a gold room with her gold fire guard and gold clock in front of a gold mirror beside the gold piano writing with her gold pen next to the gold picture frame wearing her gold bracelet talking about poverty #QueensSpeech,” said someone on Twitter.

Well, thank goodness then for the sacrifice of the peasants and commoners, at least that much was acknowledged by the Queen. What do you think of the Queen’s speech though? Are those Christmas balls made out of gold? Feel free to discuss in the comments.
