Father ‘Marries’ Daughter With Cancer To Fulfill Her Dream Of Becoming A Bride

Often in lots of cultures, the dream of becoming a bride is quite common among women. You can’t blame them, really, marriage is one heck of a milestone for people. Even children dream of being married one day. One girl who is dying of cancer in China, however, got her dream of becoming a bride come true thanks to her father who married her.

A 4-year-old girl, Yaxin from China was terminally ill. Yaxin was diagnosed with leukemia, a type of cancer, and it was already in its advanced stage when it was discovered. Doctors also estimated that she could only last two more months if left untreated. The problem is, her father, Yuan Dongfang, did not have enough money for the treatment. Here she is:

That isn’t to say Yuan failed to provide her daughter’s hospitalization needs. He has actually borrowed and spent more than 400,000 yuan ($58,000) for the hospital bills. Still, doctors told him that further treatment would cost an additional 600,000 ($87,000). Yuan did not have the money or the means to acquire that amount. So the heartbroken father did what he little he could for Yaxin. He fulfilled her final wish:

Yaxin dreamed of becoming a bride. So Yuan spent what little they had left on a hospital wedding ceremony. He also acted as a groom for his daughter at a makeshift wedding, complete with a flower bouquet and an improvised wedding dress for Yaxin:

“She might not understand the meaning of getting married. She might just think that it is a wonderful thing and therefore wants to do it. She is so innocent, naive, cute and mature. We cannot leave her behind ” said Yuan. Still, the public simply could not idly watch by as a 4-year-old dies because of poverty and cancer. Hence, donations had been made and so far, the family has received 150,000 yuan ($21,700) and counting.
