We’ve all dreamed of free cheese burgers at one time or another, but not like this. The good guys over at Burger King are giving away free burgers to a terminally-ill dog named Cody, to help him enjoy the time he has left.
The 10-year-old boxer-labrador mix is suffering from bone cancer, and has sadly been given less than three months to live. As a result, Cody’s family recently started taking him to local fast food joints for a burger treat, as well as way to help him swallow his medication.
His owner, Alec Karcher, said: “The vet told us to take him home until things worsened, and we decided we wanted to make the last stretch of his life as good as possible.
“For the last two months, we’ve been getting Cody daily cheeseburgers from either our own kitchen or some fast food restaurant. It’s been a way for us to show our love and appreciation for him being such a good dog over the years, and it helps him take his medicine every night.”
But when a family member headed to their local Burger King in Toledo, Ohio, for Cody’s daily fix last Sunday, there was a pleasant surprise in store.
“The woman working at the time kindly joked about him ordering a plain cheeseburger, and he told her Cody’s story,” explained Alec.
“She immediately went to talk to her manager, and after a few minutes she came back and told him that the burgers for Cody would be free at their location until he passed.”
Are you crying yet?
And when Alec posted the story on Twitter, the chain replied with a thoughtful message

“We never expected that to happen, and we are extremely appreciative of the kindness Burger King has shown us,” Alec has since tweeted.
Unsurprisingly, others were also touched by Burger King’s lovely offer
Why is Burger King making me cry at 7:30 on a Monday morning…

Wow, I wish Cody the best. This jerked a tear from me, I’ll admit it. I know the love an animal can give you, and its amazing seeing how a dog can spread love to an employee at Burger King who just heard a story about him. What a heartfelt company, I hope Cody can stick through.
