Anton Yelchin, a young up-coming actor who portrayed Anton Checkov in the new “Star Trek” films, died in freak car accident early Sunday according to police and publicists.
Yelchin was on his way to meet two friends for a rehearsal. He got out of his car for a short while, and the car rolled and pinned him against a brick mortar mail box and a security fence. When he didn’t show up, his friends came to check on him at his home, and that’ when they found him dead. The engine was still running on neutral.
Diretor J.J Abrams, who cast Yelchin for the role of Chekov in the Star Trek franchise, remembers him as “brilliant … kind … funny as hell, and supremely talented.”
His co-stars and fans grieve for him and send their love and prayers through the internet:

I loved Anton Yelchin so much. He was a true artist – curious, beautiful, courageous. He was a great pal and a great son. I’m in ruins.
