John Oliver Brilliantly Explains Why Donald Trump’s Border Wall Would Never Work

John Oliver decided to treat Donald Trump‘s proposed wall along the U.S/Mexican border seriously on his March 16 show. In the process, he discovered that not only is Trump’s wall laughably unrealistic, it wouldn’t even be good at stopping the illegal immigration Trump rails about during his rallies.

“Walls: the envy of all employees who work in open-plan offices,” Oliver begins. “This year, one particular wall has gotten a lot of our attention.”

Oliver then cuts to several clips of Donald Trump speaking rather… affectionately about the “Trump Wall.”

greatwalloftrump — “The border wall is one of the few policy proposals Trump has talked about in detail, so instead of mocking or dismissing it out of hand tonight let’s take a serious proposal by a serious presidential candidate seriously. And first, let’s put aside potential racism and xenophobia involved here. We can come back to that later.”

“Donald Trump wants to build a wall on the U.S/Mexican border, and based on his tone, he also wants to fuck that wall.”

Mocking aside, Oliver launches into a sustained series of attacks on the wall, introducing the segment like this:

“The border wall is one of the few policy proposals Trump has talked about in detail, so instead of mocking or dismissing it out of hand tonight let’s take a serious proposal by a serious presidential candidate seriously.
