Aaaaah, the joys of being single. Nope, that’s not an oxymoron.
With Valentines’ Day being just around the corner, it’s no wonder everyone’s gotten bit by the love bug. From Valentines’ courgettes to tiny dinner dates, the Internet is awash in the luuuurrve. On the other hand, if you’re an adamant V-day hater, there’ll always be that extra-special sweet designed specially with folks like you in mind.
However, how about if you’re happily sitting on the fence, or have simply abandoned said metaphorical fence all-together? What about those people who are 100% happy and satisfied with their singledom?
Meet Idalia Candelas. Idalia is an artist who posts much of her work on Instagram, and has recently created a thoughtful, chill series of illustrations demonstrating the immeasurable joys of being single.
“The theme of the loneliness has been recurring in my drawings,” Candelas shares. “Even though people try to avoid [it] [out of] fear, being in that situation is increasingly common in our society.”
The women focused on her work wear no tears, no frowns, no eternal sense of ennui or loneliness or unfulfillment. They’re happy to simply be able to enjoy the peace and quiet as they devote time to themselves. And seriously, why not?
“I like to show women who exist in solitude but do not suffer,” Candelas continues. “They are not depressed or crying. Rather [they] are safe, exalting in the sense of enjoying the company of just herself.”
