So-called “hoverboards” may take the cake as the most disappointing advancement in getting-to-places-slowly technology since the Segway. They’re prone to exploding, causing accidents, and worse–they look nothing like what we were promised in Back to the Future Part II.
Still, they can be pretty cool in the right situation. One Catholic priest in the Philippines thought church might be one of those situations, but it seems his superiors disagree. Maybe they have a problem with one of their own floating about in his vestments as though he were Jesus himself–or maybe hoverboards were in the “Not” category of this year’s Vatican Magazine Presents: Hot Or Not, What’s Trending for the Holy in 2015.
A video of the incident has gone viral on Facebook and YouTube, drawing a mixture of support and condemnation from America’s designated Christian punching bags, the Catholic community.
Check out his sweet moves:
Pretty harmless, right? Well, according to the Diocese of San Pablo, who is apparently some kind of important person in the clergy, the Filipino priest’s actions were “wrong.” He further stated the priest had been suspended because Mass is “the church’s highest form of worship. Consequently, it is not a personal celebration where one can capriciously introduce something to get the attention of the people.” Oiy. This guy.
Come on, guys. Either be the super cool liberal religion headed up by Jesus Christ II: This Time He’s Argentinian, or be the stodgy old rule-makers that made nuns the most feared women since Japan’s onna-bugeisha. You can’t be both.
