Imagine one man’s surprise when he checked out a QR code on a bottle of Heinz ketchup for a design contest and instead was led to a porn site.

Daniel Korell wanted to check out Heinz’s ketchup label design contest through a QR code printed on many bottles. The only problem is the link went to a much more adult topic. It seems Heinz ended its design contest and the website became defunct. A porn company has since taken over the domain. Despite the contest’s end in 2014, Korell was still upset over the mishap. He went to the company’s Facebook to tell them about the problem and explained that even though the contest ended, those branded ketchup bottles were still in many people’s kitchens.

Did we mention Korell is from Germany? No worries, we have the important points translated.

“Even if the bottle was a leftover, it’s still in lots of households,” Korell said in a comment. “It’s incomprehensible that you didn’t reserve the domain for one or two years. A .de domain name really doesn’t cost the Earth.”

To make things right, Heinz offered Korell a custom-designed bottle of ketchup and would take in consideration any of his suggestions for the implementation of future campaigns.”

It might not sound like much, but it’s better than nothing.

Oh, and the porn company that took over the domain offered Korell a free subscription.
